Somerville – Tiznit Diplomatic delegations

Main collaborators: University of the Middle East Project, City of Somerville, MA, City of Tiznit, Morocco, US Department of State, Sister Cities

In 2008, the Somerville Arts Council awarded me a Fellowship to research walking as a source of choreographic inspiration. Over the course of the year, I meandered through side streets and walking paths frequently dragging friends along on my adventures. I doubt that anyone expected that this regular practice would lead me to Morocco less than a year later as part of a 30 person diplomatic delegation with Joe Curtatone, Mayor of Somerville. And certainly no one could for see how that trip would provoke Karen Comeau and I to create Moving for Meaning, an after school program combining writing, performing, and public speaking that participated in this international exchange.
